The importance of a secure website

What is HTTP (S)?

HTTP literally stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol. These are actually rules that exist for communication between browsers and web servers. These days the required "HTTPS " is. The extra 's' that have been added here, stands for 'secure', which means 'safe'. This added extra security when personal data is exchanged. When you enter personal information somewhere, this will be sent in an encrypted code, so that only the recipient can read the communication. Via HTTPS, it becomes even more difficult (and almost impossible) to intercept data.

Secure data exchange

An SSL certificate encrypts all (sensitive) data that is sent to a server after it has been entered by the visitor. These include credit card numbers, passwords, e-mail addresses, and so on. The certificate ensures that cybercriminals cannot intercept that data. You can recognize a secure website in your browser by a green padlock or a green address bar. HTTP is also changed to HTTPS.

More confidence for the visitor

The visitor will trust your website or webshop faster and rate it higher if they see that it is secured with an SSL certificate. That way you remove a threshold to enter personal information or proceed to order.

Better and more comprehensive statistics

If you use Google Analytics, and your website is secured with an SSL certificate, you will see more extensive statistics. For example, referring websites that also use HTTPS will be displayed correctly. That is not the case if your website still uses HTTP.
